FCSB Edge Past Argeș Pitești in Superliga Opener
FCSB made a strong start to their Superliga campaign at home, dominating possession against a determined but outmatched FC Argeș Pitești. The hosts controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, with Argeș struggling to assert themselves in midfield. An early yellow card for Sadriu signalled the visitors' frustration as FCSB pressed for an opening.
That opening arrived in the 18th minute when Dani Bîrligea capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire FCSB into the lead. The goal settled the home side's nerves and they looked increasingly likely to add to their advantage before the interval. Just before the break, Florin Tănase doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, giving FCSB a commanding two-goal cushion heading into the second half. Two yellow cards for the hosts, shown to Padurariu and Popescu in quick succession during the first half, suggested some defensive fragility, though it would prove inconsequential.
The second period saw FCSB content to manage their lead rather than press for further goals. Argeș showed more ambition after the interval but lacked the quality to trouble FCSB's defence with any real consistency. The visitors created few genuine chances of note, and the home side's backline remained relatively comfortable. Despite some late pressure from the visitors, FCSB never looked in danger of surrendering their advantage.
FCSB's 2-0 victory gives them a winning start to the season and should provide confidence going forward. Argeș will need to regroup quickly and improve their attacking threat if they hope to pick up points in their remaining fixtures. For FCSB, this comfortable win sets a positive tone, though they will likely face stiffer challenges as the campaign progresses.
