Bolívar edges thrilling Copa Sudamericana playoff against Grêmio

Bolívar made a stunning start at home, catching Grêmio cold with a goal inside the opening two minutes. Marcelo Cauteruccio struck early to set the tone for what would become an enthralling playoff encounter. The hosts looked dangerous in the opening stages, but Grêmio regrouped and clawed their way back into the contest with two quick-fire goals that turned the match on its head.

Grêmio pushed hard to find an equaliser and huffed and puffed in search of a way through, but couldn't breach Bolívar's defence despite sustained pressure. Luis Pérez and Gabriel Mec both received yellow cards as Grêmio's frustration grew, but they could not find a way past their opponents.

The final whistle saw Bolívar through to the next round after a breathless encounter. The hosts held firm through six minutes of stoppage time to secure a 3-2 victory that sends them marching forward in the Copa Sudamericana.
