Trento stuns Sassuolo with dominant friendly victory
Trento made their intent clear from the opening whistle, coming out with purpose and energy against a Sassuolo side that struggled to find their rhythm. The home crowd provided strong backing throughout, creating an atmosphere that lifted the hosts and seemed to unsettle their visitors. It was a bright start for the Serie A outfit, who pressed high and looked dangerous on the counter-attack from the earliest stages.
The breakthrough came when Trento took the lead through composed finishing, capitalising on a moment of vulnerability in the Sassuolo defence. The hosts doubled their advantage before half-time with a well-taken second goal that put them firmly in control of the contest. Sassuolo had chances to respond but found themselves consistently second best in the middle of the park and unable to break down Trento's organised shape.
After the interval, Sassuolo made a genuine effort to get back into the game and created some openings in the final third. However, Trento remained resolute in defence and limited their opponents to half chances, with the backline holding firm when called upon. The visitors never truly threatened to mount a comeback despite their pressure periods, and Trento managed the closing stages comfortably.
The 2-0 victory will give Trento confidence heading into their competitive campaign, while Sassuolo will need to sharpen up considerably before their season gets underway. Friendlies at this stage of pre-season often reveal areas requiring work, and the Serie A side will have lessons to take from this defeat. For the hosts, this was an encouraging showing against tougher opposition and proof that they can compete with sides from the higher divisions.
