Sidibeh Fires Stockport Past Bristol City in Summer Friendly
Stockport County made a strong start to their pre-season campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory over Bristol City at Edgeley Park. The home side controlled much of the opening exchanges against opponents who looked to settle into the contest. A decent crowd turned out for the summer friendly, eager to see what their team would offer in the new season.
Sidibeh broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when he finished clinically to put Stockport ahead. The goal came from a well-worked move involving the home side's attacking players, and it gave Stockport the platform they needed to build on their early dominance. Bristol City had chances to respond but failed to trouble the Stockport goalkeeper with any real conviction as the first half progressed.
Stockport pushed for a second goal after the interval and their pressure eventually paid off when they extended their lead in the second half. The away side grew into the game but never quite found a way through a resolute home defence. Both managers used the fixture to assess their squads and test different combinations, which is typical of summer friendlies at this stage of pre-season.
The 2-0 scoreline gives Stockport County something to build on as they prepare for the season ahead, while Bristol City will look to improve following a flat display. These fixtures serve as important barometers ahead of the competitive campaign, and Stockport will be pleased with their work rate and finishing. Head into the new season with momentum, Stockport showed enough to suggest they could be competitive when it matters.
