Benfica's firepower proves too much for Belenenses

Benfica came out with intent from the first whistle and carved open their Lisbon neighbours with ruthless efficiency. The home side's attacking prowess was on full display at the Estádio da Luz, and it took just two minutes for them to break the deadlock when André Cabral fired past the Belenenses goalkeeper to set the tone for the afternoon.

Benfica restored their lead just five minutes later when Filipe Ivanović converted a penalty to make it 2-1, then added a third just before the interval through Gabriel Prestianni's composed finish to send Benfica into the break in complete control at 3-1.

The second half saw Benfica continue their relentless assault on the Belenenses defence. João Durán extended the lead to 4-1 in the 54th minute, and Prestianni grabbed his second goal moments later to complete his brace and Benfica's fifth of the match. By that point, the contest was long settled and the home side coasted through the remaining minutes without any further alarms.

The 5-1 victory underlined Benfica's attacking depth and sharpness as they build towards the new season. For Belenenses, it was a sobering afternoon against the stronger opposition, though Bruninho's goal did at least provide a moment of pride in an otherwise disappointing outing.
