Braga Breaks Pančevo Resistance in Serbian Qualifier
FK Železničar Pančevo hosted Sporting Braga in sweltering conditions at their Serbian fortress, knowing they faced a significant test against the Portuguese club's experience. The home side came into the tie with ambition and defensive resolve, looking to frustrate their visitors and create opportunities on the counter-attack. Braga, however, settled into their rhythm early and controlled possession with the composure of a team operating at a higher level in European competition.
The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute when Rodrigo Horta stepped up to convert a penalty, sending the ball past Pančevo's goalkeeper to put Braga ahead. The penalty proved to be the only goal of the match, and it came at precisely the moment when Pančevo were beginning to tire. Braga had made their superiority count when it mattered most, and from that point forward they managed the game with the efficiency of a side intent on progressing. Pančevo pressed for an equaliser but found little luck against a disciplined Portuguese defence.
The home team's frustration manifested in a series of yellow cards, with Jevremović booked early in the first half before Popović and Vidojević collected cautions in the second period. Braga's Gabriel Silva and Fabio Navarro also received bookings late on, though neither team was reduced to ten men. Despite Pančevo's determination and moments of attacking promise, they struggled to break down a Braga side that defended with organisation and purpose throughout.
The 0-1 scoreline confirmed Sporting Braga's progression to the next qualifying round. Pančevo's European adventure had ended in this early stage, but they could take pride in a competitive performance against superior opponents. For Braga, the victory was a professional display that sets them up nicely for their continued pursuit of European football's elite stages later in the summer campaign.
