راسينغ وفياريال يتقاسمان الأرباح في افتتاح الدوري الإسباني الدرامي

Real Racing Club and Villarreal served up an engaging encounter at El Sardinero, with neither team able to claim the upper hand over ninety minutes. The hosts made a bright start, and their early aggression bore fruit when Álvaro Martín converted a penalty in the 21st minute to give them the lead. Sergio Martínez added a second thirteen minutes later, and Racing looked well placed to carry a two-goal advantage into the break.

The away side had other ideas. Nicolás Pépé pulled one back in the 45th minute, and before the interval could be called, Pape Gueye levelled the match immediately to leave Real Racing Club 2-2 Villarreal at half-time. Those back-to-back goals utterly transformed the momentum, and Villarreal's response suggested they had found their rhythm precisely when it mattered most.

The second half failed to produce the same drama. Racing created chances to edge ahead but could not find a way through a Villarreal side that settled into a more measured rhythm. Yellow cards to G. Puerta and later J. Foyth punctuated the action, but neither team mounted a sustained push for a winner in the closing stages. Both defences held firm when it counted, leaving the points shared.

The stalemate means both sides head into their next fixtures with work to do. Racing had the chance to make a statement on home soil but ultimately squandered their two-goal platform. Villarreal, meanwhile, will take heart from their second-half recovery, though they will feel they left points on the table by not pressing for a winner when they had momentum on their side.
