Whitecaps Stun Sounders with Late Away Victory

Seattle Sounders FC dominated possession for long stretches but could not find the breakthrough against a disciplined Vancouver Whitecaps side. The home team pressed high in the opening period and created several promising openings, yet Vancouver's compact defensive shape frustrated their attacking rhythm. A cagey first half ended goalless, with neither team able to capitalise on their chances.

The deadlock finally broke in the 77th minute when R. Elloumi swept past Seattle's defence to give Vancouver a crucial lead. Just five minutes later, T. Müller added a second to seal the away victory, catching the Sounders in a vulnerable state as they pushed for an equaliser. Seattle's frustration boiled over in the closing stages, with three yellow cards distributed to J. Ragen, N. Tolo, and P. Rothrock as the home side's discipline crumbled.

Vancouver's late efficiency proved the difference between the teams. Once Elloumi broke through, the Whitecaps showed the composure to kill the game off rather than allow Seattle any route back into the contest. The visitors' defensive organisation, tested throughout the second half, held firm when it mattered most.

The result leaves Seattle with questions to answer at home, while Vancouver move up the table with a valuable away victory. Three points on the road in MLS is a precious commodity, and the Whitecaps delivered when it counted most in front of goal.
