Frattesi Strikes Late as Lazio Claims Road Victory

Bologna and Lazio served up a competitive opening day encounter at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, with neither side willing to surrender early advantage. The hosts pressed for possession in the opening exchanges but found little penetration against a well-drilled Lazio defence. Both teams competed fiercely in midfield, setting a physical tone that would define the afternoon.

The deadlock shattered in the 59th minute when Davide Frattesi capitalised on a moment of vulnerability in Bologna's backline to fire Lazio ahead. It was a moment of clinical finishing from the visiting side, and one that proved decisive despite sustained pressure from the home team thereafter. Bologna searched for an equaliser with increasing urgency but could not find the breakthrough before the final whistle.

The second half marked a tangible shift in Bologna's approach after Lazio took the lead. The hosts threw bodies forward and created several opportunities, yet lacked the precision to beat Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel. Frattesi's goal had altered the rhythm entirely, forcing Bologna to chase the game on terms dictated by Maurizio Sarri's organised side.

Lazio's defence stood firm when it mattered most, absorbing Bologna's pressure with discipline and composure. The visitors' compact shape in midfield restricted the hosts' creative options and prevented them from building sustained attacking sequences. Both benches made tactical adjustments as the match progressed, but neither side found the killer touch required to alter the scoreline further.

Cautions mounted as the contest wore on, with both sides picking up four yellow cards apiece as intensity remained high through the closing stages. This result hands Lazio a perfect start to their Serie A campaign, whilst Bologna will be left to rue missed chances in a match they controlled without capturing. The away side's clinical finishing and defensive organisation proved the decisive factors as they left Emilia-Romagna with three points in the bag.
