هدفين إيفانز يدفع شروزبري للخروج في فليتوود

Fleetwood Town 4-0 Shrewsbury Town
Share

Fleetwood Town's trip through the Carabao Cup second round became a rout. The home side scored four goals without reply, with Shrewsbury Town offering virtually nothing in response across 90 minutes of one-sided football.

An own goal from W. Boyle handed Fleetwood the lead after just eight minutes, setting an uncomfortable tone for the visitors. Craig Evans doubled the advantage twenty minutes later, then added a third five minutes before the interval to effectively end the contest before half-time. Shrewsbury arrived at the break facing an uphill task at 3-0 down, and there was no evidence of any second-half recovery in their performance.

The second half barely altered the scoreline or the pattern of play. Fleetwood's superiority meant they controlled proceedings without needing to produce their best work. Evans' display had already done enough to settle the tie, leaving Shrewsbury chasing shadows rather than goals.

Defensively, Shrewsbury proved unable to cope with Fleetwood's attacking threat. The visitors retreated into a passive shape that invited further pressure, and the hosts capitalised ruthlessly. There was little to suggest Shrewsbury possessed either the quality or intensity to mount a credible challenge once Evans had struck twice.

Discipline played a minor role as the match wore on. Shrewsbury collected three cautions through A. Jude-Boyd, J. Gbode, and K. Berkoe, reflecting a growing frustration, while Fleetwood's S. Rooney picked up a yellow in the second half. Neither team's record offered much concern, but Shrewsbury's accumulating bookings underlined their inability to regain any footing.

Fleetwood have booked their place in round three and will carry serious momentum forward. For Shrewsbury, this defeat represented a chastening exit from a competition where they offered no resistance whatsoever.
