Forest and Vitória Share Spoils in Friendly Stalemate

Nottingham Forest opened their pre-season campaign with a competitive showing against Portuguese visitors Vitória SC, though ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils. The atmosphere at the City Ground was lively as both sides looked to build match fitness ahead of the new campaign. Forest dominated stretches of the first half and their control was rewarded when I. The visitors emerged with renewed purpose after the interval and levelled matters just five minutes into the second half when M. Nogueira converted from the penalty spot. The decision appeared to catch Forest off guard after such a dominant opening 45 minutes, shifting the momentum of the contest sharply in Vitória's favour. From that point, both teams traded chances but neither could find a winner, with the quality becoming more patchy as fatigue set in.

Forest huffed and puffed in search of a second goal that might have secured a deserved victory, but Vitória's defence held firm. The Portuguese outfit proved resilient and posed enough of an attacking threat to suggest they would not have been undone even had Forest pushed harder. Chances came and went for both sides in a frantic final quarter, yet neither goalkeeper was seriously troubled in the closing stages.

The 1-1 draw represents a reasonable workout for both teams at this stage of pre-season, though Forest will feel they left points on the table after their first-half showing. For manager Nuno Espírito Santo, there will be lessons to take from how quickly his side lost control after the break. Vitória, meanwhile, can take heart from their second-half comeback as they continue their own preparations for the campaign ahead.
